Mt. SAC Women’s Basketball opens SCC action with an 84-76 win over ELAC

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team opened South Coast Conference action with an 84-76 win over visiting East Los Angeles College on Wednesday (January 18).

With the win, the Mounties improved to 14-7 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Freshman guard Dailani Richardson (3-6 3PM-A, 10-10 FTM-A, 5 RB) had a game-high 21 points to lead the Mounties, while sophomore forward Kameria Piggee (8-11 FGM-A, 12 RB) had a season-high 20 points.

"We came out strong, but it wasn't strong enough," said Piggee, referring to the fourth quarter comeback by ELAC. "This is important to us and I'm pretty sure and I know for a fact, that we're going to pull it through. I'm confident and actually very excited."

Also, in double figures for the Mounties was sophomore guard Jamya Mickens (7-8 FTM-A, 6 RB, 3 Assts.) with 11 points and sophomore guard Kamesha Moore (1-2 3PM-A, 7 RB, 4 A, Stl.) had 10.

After a close first half, with the Mounties holding a 32-26 lead, they broke open the game in the third quarter by outscoring the Huskies, 31-20, to take a 17-point, 63-46 lead, heading into the final quarter.

Richardson and Piggee led the way for the Mounties in the third quarter with 10 and nine points, respectively.

Mt. SAC even built up a 22-point lead, 70-48, at the 7:05 mark of the fourth quarter, before the Huskies started a comeback. They outscored the Mounties, 16-4 in a 3-minute span to climb within 10 points, 74-64.

The two teams traded baskets the rest of the way for the eight-point victory by the Mounties.

Mt. SAC travels to Pasadena City College on Friday (Jan. 20) for a South Coast Conference game.
