Mountie Women's Basketball earns pair of wins at Moorpark Tournament

(Moorpark, CA) Following an opening-round defeat, Mt. San Antonio College (8-6) picked up a pair of wins in the second and third rounds of the Tommy A. North/South Challenge at Moorpark College on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 17 and 18.

Mt. SAC 74 Chabot 45

Jamya Mickens scored a game-high 21 points and led all players with 11 rebounds off the bench to lead the Mounties to a 74-45 win over Chabot College (4-10) in a second-round matchup on Friday. Briana Lizardi (eight assists) added 16 points to round out Mt. SAC's double-digit scoring.

Kamesha Moore grabbed 10 rebounds for the Mounties as teammate Kameria Piggee tallied nine.

Mt. SAC dominated the Gladiators in several key team categories, including rebounding (61-26), points in the paint (40-22), and bench scoring (41-0).

Mt. SAC 63 Redwoods 42

Behind 18 points from Lizardi, the Mounties closed out the tournament with a 63-42 win over College of the Redwoods (4-10) on Saturday. Mickens and Moore scored nine points each in the winning effort and Endigo Parker led the Mounties with seven rebounds.

As a team, Mt. SAC outplayed the Corsairs in several categories, including rebounding (46-38), points off turnovers (25-9), and bench scoring (27-7).

Winners of four of their last five, the Mounties have back-to-back non-conference matchups this week: on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Mt. San Jacinto College (10-1) at 6 p.m., and on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at San Diego Mesa College (7-4) at 4 p.m.
