Mt. SAC Women’s Basketball opens season with big win over Barstow, 119-13, in Tip-Off Tourney

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team came flying out of the gate to open the season with a resounding, 119-13, win over Barstow in the Linda G. Smith Tip-Off Tournament on Friday (November 4).

The Mounties, with a 36-0 first quarter start, led 64-4 at the half and had the biggest winning margin over a team in years, to advance to the semifinals of the tournament named after the longtime Mountie supporter.

Mt. SAC, ranked No. 2 in the CCCWBCA preseason poll and a 14-time winner of the tournament, will play Merritt College, a 75-55 winner over San Diego City College, Saturday (Nov. 5). Game time is 7:00 pm.

Seven players scored in double figures, led by sophomores Kamesha Moore (7-9 FGM-A, 7 RB, 5 A, 7 Stls.) and Destiny Marsh (7-10 FGM-A, 3 RB, 2 A, 3 Stls.) with 14 points each.

Sidney Sparks (6-7 FGM-A, 7 RB, 2 A, 3 Stls.) and Genevieve Gudino (6-8 FGM-A, 5 A, 3 Stls.) added 12, while three players – Endigo Parker (5-10 FGM-A, 4 Blks.), Dailani Richardson (4-7 FGM-A, 1-3 3PM-A, 3 A, 3 Stls.) and Kameria Piggee (5-6 FGM-A, 7 RB, 3 A, 6 Stls.) had 10 points each.

As a team, the Mounties were 57 for 88 from the field, with a 64.8% shooting percentage and 33 steals.
