Mountie Women Basketball easily defeat Cerritos, 78-53, in an El Camino Crossover Challenge win

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team cruised to its sixth win in a row with an easy, 78-53, win over visiting Cerritos College Wednesday (Jan. 12) in an El Camino Crossover Challenge game.

With the win, the Mounties upped their record to 13-3 overall. They will host Long Beach City College Friday (Jan. 14) in a South Coast Conference Crossover Challenge game prior to their first SCC game next week.

Mt. SAC, which is ranked second in the latest South Region CCWBCA Poll (Jan. 3) and seventh in the state (Jan. 10), was led by sophomore forward Allyah Cartajena (7-9 FGM-A, 2-4 FTM-A, 4 steals) with 16 points. She also had a game-high 10 rebounds.

Also in double figures was freshman forward Kameria Piggee (5-8 FGM-A) with 10 points.

Mina Guevara-Goss (4 RB) and Kamesha Moore (6 RB) each added nine points, while Jamya Mickens (5 RB) and Skylarr Little (2-2 FGM-A, 3-4 FTM-A, 3 RB) scored seven points.

The Mounties, behind the scoring of Cartajena (8 points) and Moore (7 points) in the opening quarter, built up a 27-16 lead heading into the second period.

Moore's 3-pointer midway through the quarter gave the Mounties their biggest lead of the period, which carried over to the second quarter as they led, 45-31, at the break.

The Mounties kept the pressure on the rest of the way, outscoring Cerritos (9-7), 33-22 for the 25-point win.

Mt. SAC's bench scored 37 points to aid in the win.
