(Visalia, CA) Saturday's, 50-43, win over Butte College in a third-place game in the Gilcrest Invitational, was not just another win for the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team.
Yes, it was win number eight on the season, but more importantly, it was win number 300 for longtime Mountie coach Brian Crichlow.
Eleven years as a head coach at Mt. SAC has led to this monumental number for a community college coach. He has been at the college since the 1999 season.
Crichlow is 300-43 overall for a .875 winning percentage.
During his 11 years as head coach, Crichlow has won four CCCAA State Championships, which includes six championship game appearances.
Before he was named head coach, Crichlow assisted former coach Laura Beeman (1999-2010) and was a part of four state titles.
Those eight championships he has been a part of, are the most any college has won since 1978 when community colleges completed the season with a state championship.
Included in the accolades for Crichlow, he was named State Coach of the Year, South Coast Conference Coach of the Year five times, and SCC All-Sports Coach of the Year in 2016.
His teams also have won the SCC eight times, with the latest in 2020.
The 2020 season was canceled due to the pandemic, as the Mounties were set to appear in the state championships, which was their eighth appearance.
Crichlow has a great support system with assistant coaches, Zack Hope, Carsandra Taylor, and Darryl Kennedy.
In the win over Butte College, the Mounties (8-3) were led by freshman guard Kamesha Moore (6-8 FGM-A, 3-3 FTM-A) with 15 points, followed by sophomore guard Mina Guevara-Goss (3-6 3PM-A, 7 RB, 3 Steals) with 13 points.
Skylarr Little and Allyah Cartajena (2-2 FTM-A, 8 Pts) led the Mounties with 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively. Savanna Norfleet added seven points.
The Mounties, as a team, grabbed 50 rebounds, 20 more than Butte.
The Mounties play in their third consecutive tournament beginning Thursday (Dec. 11) in the L.A. Valley College Tourney.
