Mountie Women's Basketball win third-place game at Ventura Tourney; Defeat host Pirates, 54-44

(Ventura, CA) After a close loss in the semifinals, the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team defeated host Ventura, 54-44, in the Tournament of Champions third-place game Saturday (Nov. 20).

With the win, the Mounties improved to 6-2 overall on the season.

They will next travel North to Visalia and will play in the College of the Sequoias (Dec. 2-4) Gilcrest Tournament. The Mounties will open with Chabot College Thursday (Dec. 2).

In the game against Ventura, the Mounties were led by freshman guard Briana Lizardi with a game-high 16 points. Lizardi was 7 for 14 from the field and pulled down six rebounds.

Also in double figures was freshman forward Sanaisha Morgan (6-10 FGM, 7 RB, 4 Stls., 4 Blks.) with 12 points.

Morgan was named to the All-Tournament team.

As a team, the Mounties had 44 rebounds.

The teams were tied at the half (27-27) and after three quarters (40-40), but the Mounties went on a 14-4 run in the fourth quarter.

The game was tied, 44-44, with 6:22 remaining in the game, as the Mounties outscored the Pirates, 10-0 down the stretch for the win.
