CCCAA Top Ten Women’s Basketball Teams Clash; Mt. SAC Comeback Falls Short to Palomar, 64-56

Mt. SAC Women's Basketball vs Palomar

(Walnut, CA) In a battle between two of the top ten women's teams in the state, CCCAA fourth-ranked visiting Palomar College downed No. 6 Mt. SAC, 64-56, Monday (Dec. 16) in a non-conference game.   

Palomar improved to 12-1 overall while the Mounties fell to 7-4.

With the Mounties mounting a fourth-quarter comeback that came within four points, 60-56 and less than a minute left in the game, the Comets sank two crucial free throws in the last 30 seconds to seal the victory.

Leading the way for the Mounties was sophomore guard Aujane Mayes (4 for 8 FG, 5-10 FT, 3 Steals) with a team-high 13 points. Freshman guard Hope Kakihara (3 for 10 FG, 5-6 FT) had a season-high 11 points.

Also in double figures for the Mounties was sophomore forward Lauryn Manns (5 for 8 FG, 3 Steals) with 10 points.

Allyah Cartajena and Skylarr Little led Mt. SAC with eight and six rebounds, respectively.

In the game, the Mounties fell behind by double figures and trailed, 34-22 at the half.

The Mounties outscored Palomar, 34-30, in the second half.

The Mounties travel to Lancaster to play in the Antelope Valley College Holiday Classic Thursday (Dec. 19). They will play host AVC. Game time is 7 pm.
