Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Takes Second at Ventura Tournament

(Ventura, CA) After first- and second-round wins over Taft College and Long Beach City College on Nov. 21 and 22, respectively, the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team lost to host Ventura College in the championship game of the VC-Kiwanis Tournament of Champions on Saturday, Nov. 23. The championship matchup was the 13th time the schools have met in this particular tournament.

The Mounties return to action on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. against Reedley College (2-2) in the opening round of the College of the Sequoias Tournament in Visalia

Mt. SAC 105 Taft 34 (Nov. 21)

Mina Guevera-Goss and Lauryn Manns scored game-high 16 points each to lead Mt. SAC (4-1) to a 105-34 win over Taft College (1-5) in the opening round of the VC-Kiwanis Tournament of Champions in Ventura.

Taylor Shelby added 12 points for the Mounties, while teammates Remy Hare and Kyah Fizer added 10 points each. Allyah Cartajena led Mt. SAC with 11 rebounds and Skylarr Little tallied four blocked shots in the winning effort..

Mt. SAC 62 Long Beach 54 (Nov. 22)

In the second round of the tournament, Mt. SAC (5-1) overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to defeat Long Beach City College (3-2) by the score of 62-54.

Shelby led the Mounties with 14 points and Guevera-Goss added 13. Aujane Mayes and Hare pitched in with 10 points each. Guevera-Goss led the team with seven boards.

The Mounties outscored the Vikings, 46-26, in the second half to seal the win.

Ventura 44 Mt. SAC 40 (Nov. 23)

Ventura (6-0) survived a fourth-quarter push by Mt. SAC (5-2) to hold on for a 44-40 win in the championship game of the tournament.

Mayes was the top scorer for the Mounties with 14 points and Cartejena was the top rebounder with seven.
