(Walnut, CA) As the clock expired, the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team last-second shot was nullified and the Mounties lost a crucial South Coast Conference North game Friday (2/15), 60-58, to East Los Angeles College on Coaches for Cancer and sophomore night.

With .03 showing on the clock, a near-perfect inbound and basket by sophomore forward Kiara Stiger (5 for 11 FGM, 4 RBs, 1 Asst., 3 Stls., 10 Pts.) wasn't counted because time had expired.

The Mounties, who have a No. 12-state ranking, had built up a second-quarter, 11-point lead at one point. By the time halftime came around, the Huskies crawled back into the game and trailed by only three points, 29-26.

The third quarter saw six lead changes, with neither team leading by more than three points.

ELAC, ranked No. 6 In the state, led by a basket, 44-42, heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter with 4:17 remaining, a lay-up by Jade Hughes (4 for 12 FGM, 10 RBs, 3 Stls., 1 Blk.) gave the Mounties their first lead, 54-52, since the 4:37 mark in third.

A minute later Hughes connected with a short jumper and the Mounties had a four-point, 56-52 lead.

That lead evaporated quickly with a 6-0 Husky run and a 58-56 advantage. A basket by ELAC and two free throws by Mt. SAC set up the final play of the game.

Natalia Shpegel (6-8 FTM, 2 RB, 1 Asst.) had a game-high 14 points along with Aujanae Mayes (4-7 FGM, 3-6 FTM, 4 RBs, 7 Assts.) adding 11 points for the Mounties.

Mt. SAC concludes the regular season with two road games this week, Wednesday (2/20) at Pasadena City College and Friday (2/22) at Rio Hondo.
