Mounties roll to resounding SCC North win over Chaffey

(Walnut, CA) Visiting Chaffey (5-17, 0-7) stayed close through the first quarter, but it was all Mt. SAC (19-7, 5-2) after that as the Mounties rolled to a 76-50 South Coast Conference North Division win on Wednesday night.

The Panthers cut Mt. SAC's lead to seven, 49-42, with 8:36 to play, but the Mounties took control from there by going on a 27-8 run to close out the game and earn the victory. The spurt included a 16-0 roll while holding Chaffey scoreless for the last half of the fourth quarter.

Mt. SAC's Tiana Douglas led all players with 21 points and 12 rebounds off the bench. Jade Hughes added 16 points and seven boards for the Mounties, while teammates Kiara Stiger (14 points) and Natalia Shpegel (12 points) rounded out the team's double-digit scorers. Stiger and Shpegel also tallied six rebounds each. Douglas' two blocked shots was a team-high on the night.

Jessica Pantoja led the Panthers with 18 points.

Next up, Mt. SAC will host East Los Angeles (23-5, 6-1) in an SCC North Division matchup on Friday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. The game will be Coaches vs Cancer as well as Sophomore night. In the latest California Community College Sports Information Association state poll, the Huskies are ranked No. 6 and the Mounties at No. 12
