(Walnut, CA) A 22-point third quarter by the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team highlighted a, 55-51, South Coast Conference North win over visiting Pasadena City College (PCC).  During the Friday (2/1) contest, #7 ranked PCC (1/28 CCCSIA Poll) trailed by nine points in the fourth and mounted a strong comeback, only to be turned away by the Mounties down the stretch.

With the win, the tenth-ranked Mounties improved to 17-6 overall, 3-1 in conference and move into a tie for second with L.A. Trade Tech in the South Coast Conference.

Mt. SAC was led by a trio of players with 12 points each – guard Tiana Douglas (6 for 12 FGM, 8 RB, 2 Assts., 1 Stl., 1 Blk.), guard Natalia Shpegel (5-6 FTM, 3 RB, 5 Assts., 2 Stls.) and forward Lauryn Manns (6-11 FGM, 3 RB, 3 Assts., 1 Stl., 1 Blk.).

Jade Hughes (9 RB, 2 Assts., 3 Stls., 2 Blks.) and Kiara Stiger (1-2 3PM, 4 RB) added seven points each.

The Mounties trailed PCC early, 9-4, but reversed the scoring for the remainder of the opening quarter, 9-4 for a 13-13 tie heading into the second quarter.

The first-quarter 9-4 run by the Mounties was highlighted by Manns' two baskets and a pair of free throws by forward Remy Hare (4 Pts.) at the end of the quarter.

The Lancers held the lead throughout the second quarter, taking a 2-point, 25-23 lead at the half.

Mt. SAC began the third quarter with an 8-0 run to take a 31-25 lead, which they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.

The run was highlighted by a Douglas layup, a short jumper by Manns and two free throws by Shpegel.

The Mounties built up their biggest lead of the game, 45-36, at the end of the quarter, but PCC crawled back into the game by holding the Mounties to 10 points in the final quarter.

With only 25 seconds left in the game and Mt. SAC holding on to a two-point, 53-51 lead, Shpegel sank a free throw for the three-point, 54-51 advantage.

The clincher was a free throw by guard Aujanae Mayes with just nine seconds left, which gave the Mounties a four-point, 55-51 lead and the game.
