Mounties unable to overcome fast start by East L.A.

(Monterey Park, CA) Mt. SAC's Jade Hughes led all scorers with 21 points but it wasn't enough as East Los Angeles (20-4, 3-0) captured a 77-67 South Coast Conference North Division win on Wednesday night.

Aujanae Mayes scored 13 points off the bench for the Mounties (16-6, 2-1), while Lauryn Manns and Tiana Douglas rounded out the team's double-digit scorers with 10 points each.

Hughes also led Mt. SAC with eight rebounds and three steals. Douglas grabbed seven boards in the losing effort.

The Huskies outrebounded the Mounties, 49-29, while running their win streak to 10 games.

Mt. SAC will host Pasadena (16-5, 1-2) on Friday, Feb. 1, in an SCC North Division matchup at 7 p.m. The Lancers are ranked No. 7 and the Mounties No. 10 in the most recent state rankings.
