(Visalia, CA) Midway through the 41st Annual Gilcrest Tournament with a 2-0 start, the Mounties head into the semifinals after a 57-46 win over Foothill College Friday night at the College of the Sequoias.

The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team is off to an identical 7-1 start to the season this year, just as they were in 2016 in route to their record eighth CCCAA state title.

Mt. SAC, which won the tournament last season, was led by forward Jonnae Vermillion with a game-high 23 points. She was 11 of 15 at the charity stripe and grabbed five rebounds.

Guard Deja Siaki (2 of 4 3-pt. FG, 4 RB) added 12 points and guard Myjoi Adams (2 of 4 FT, 6 RB, steal) had six for the Mounties.

The Mounties trailed by a point at the half, 26-25 but a second-half surge of 32 points, with six coming from Vermillion in the third quarter and 10 from Siaki in the fourth sealed the victory.

The Mountie women will look to advance to the championship for the second year in a row with a semifinal game against L.A. Valley College (6-2) Saturday night at 6:00 p.m.
