Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Softball Team, led by Head Coach Ruby Rojas, is set to hit the ground running, and knock this season out of the park. With a legacy of excellence and high expectations, the program is prepared to take their talent all the way to the top.

"This team is unique in the sense that we have incredible depth in our pitching," Coach Rojas shared. The pitching staff consists of four talented freshmen including standout recruit Kayden Connaty, Samantha Vizcarra, Mariah Figueroa and Isabella Guerrero. "I've always been blessed with really phenomenal players, but this is the first time I've had a group of pitchers who can hit and excel in other positions as well – they are true athletes."

Supporting the pitchers, are four exceptional catchers, including returning sophomore Morgan Kneubuhler. "She had a phenomenal year, earning All-American and Diamond Catcher of the Year, meaning out of all the teams, she was the best catcher in the entire California Junior College system," Coach Rojas explained. "She is one of the biggest threats in Cal JC softball right now and she's ours."

Other returning talent includes shortstop Katie Griego, a second-team All-Conference selection, and first baseman Audrey White, a Golden Glove Award winner recognized as one of the state's top defenders. While only a handful of players are returners, the incoming freshmen are ready to step into their respective roles and embrace the high standards of Mt. SAC Softball.

When it comes to their goals for the season, the team has one mission: to take it all. "Our goal is the ring and to be the champions," Rojas declared. "We are not coming in second, third or fourth. It's been like that for the past couple of years, but that cycle is over. Let's go win the gold."

However, Rojas and the team understand that the path to victory won't be easy, as they face tough competition within their conference from strong programs like El Camino, Long Beach, and Cerritos. They'll also contend with traditional powerhouses such as Cypress and Palomar, along with top Northern California teams like San Mateo and West Valley, all of whom are expected to be formidable contenders this season.

To get ready for the grueling 40-game schedule, the team is focusing on game-like scenarios, strength training, staying healthy and mental preparation. "We do a lot of mental training in my program," Rojas explained. "We dedicate class time to learning proper breathing techniques, practicing visualization, managing nerves, and calming the chaos in our minds." Rojas believes this focus on mental resilience is crucial for helping her players stay composed under pressure, both on and off the field.

Team chemistry is also a top priority. "We have 22 players on the roster this year and the girls know our policy as far as having a team-first mentality" Rojas said. "It is my job as their coach to make sure everybody is united because that is our superpower. You need that chemistry to get you to the end."

While winning is important, the program's true focus remains on academic excellence and player development. Last season, the Mt. SAC Softball Team achieved a 100% transfer rate, with the majority of athletes advancing to Division I schools. "Obviously, we want to win," Rojas emphasized, "but the primary goal is to help our athletes mature into amazing and competitive women, who can graduate, transfer and continue their softball careers at the next level."

The Mounties have bolstered their coaching staff with some impressive new additions, including two former Mt. SAC softball players. Former All-American and Fresno State standout Tiffany Kennedy-Cummings, a proud Mountie alum, joins the team to work with the pitchers, while Adriana Ramirez, another former Mountie who was part of the 2018-2019 back-to-back State Championship squad, will be coaching the catchers. John Martin has also come aboard, bringing his expertise in outfield training and recruiting. Rounding out the staff is Anthony Gonzalez, returning as an assistant coach and Coach Rojas's trusted right-hand man.

"I'm fired up for this season," Rojas concluded. The team will travel up north to West Valley College at the end of the month, giving the players an opportunity to see where the State Championships will take place later this year. "I want the girls to visualize it – knowing we are starting the season and ending the season there. A full circle moment."

Be sure to come out and support the Mt. SAC Women's Softball Team as they pursue the State Championship title. Their first home game is on Friday, January 24, at 11:00 AM against Los Angeles Mission College, followed by Fresno City College at 6:30 PM.
