Mt. SAC Softball shuts out Antelope Valley College, 5-0

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Softball team won its fourth game and freshman pitcher Mirannda Rodriquez went the distance, scattering six hits and winning her first college game, in a 5-0 non-conference victory over visiting Antelope Valley College on Friday (February 3).

Rodriguez went the distance and was backed by the continued hot hitting of centerfielder Mia Mendoza, who is five for six in the last two games.

Mendoza hit a double and scored two runs as she was 2 for 3 for the Mounties.

Playing her first game of the season was sophomore first baseman Brianna Goris (1 for 2, 2 RBIs), who hit her first home run, a two-run shot in the sixth inning to give the Mounties a 4-1 lead.

With two hits each for the Mounties were shortstop Katelyn Olson (2 for 3, RBI, SB) and third baseman Olivia Ortiz (2 for 3, R, RBI).

Mt. SAC got on the scoreboard in the third inning with an RBI single by sophomore second baseman Asia Chacon (1 for 3, RBI), scoring Ortiz and Olson added a second run in the fourth with a single to center field, scoring Mendoza.

The Mounties continue non-conference action with a game at Ventura on Tuesday (Feb. 7).
