(Walnut, CA) The long wait was finally over for the Mt. SAC Softball team after its tremendous start to the 2020 season with an 18-1 record, after it was halted due to the pandemic.

The Mounties, however, will have to wait a bit longer for their initial win of the 2021 season, after a 2-1 setback to visiting Saddleback College Thursday, April 16.

The 2018-19 CCCAA State Champions were held to two hits and one run in seven innings.

Both teams were held without a run through the first five innings.

Mt. SAC starter Annalisa Panuco (0-1) only allowed two hits, while Saddleback starter Veronica Belleza (1-0) was holding the Mounties' hitless.

The sixth inning opened the door for both teams, as the Gauchos took a 2-0 lead in the top half of the inning.

The Mounties answered with a pair of doubles by sophomore right fielder Haley Moran and freshman shortstop Ariana Coronado for a run.

Mt. SAC, which will play a shortened 13-game season, will play a doubleheader next Thursday, April 22. Game times are noon and 2:00 pm.
