(Walnut, CA) Five players banged out two hits apiece as the Mt. SAC Softball Team defeated Rio Hondo, 14-2, in South Coast Conference action Tuesday (Feb. 25).
With the win, the Mounties extended their season-long winning streak to 13 games overall and 7-0 in conference.
Mt. SAC, ranked No. 1 in the state, had 10 players with at least one RBI and 17 hits in the five-inning game.
The Mounties scored 13 runs in the first two innings and were led by center fielder Nicole Siess (2-2, 2 Runs, RBI) who produced a double and a home run and right fielder Alexis Lujan (2-2, 2 R) who produced 3 RBI's.
Highlighting the five-run first for the Mounties was Lujan with a two-run double to right field, which scored Charleen Macias (2-2, 2 R, 1 RBI) and Brooke De La O (1-3, R, RBI) for the 4-0 lead.
In the second inning, Mt. SAC scored eight runs, with Siess opening the inning with a solo home run (4) to lead, 6-0.
Two batters later, shortstop Quinn De Avila doubled to center. Seven of the next nine batters knocked in solo runs, to give the Mounties a 13-0 lead.
The Roadrunners broke the shutout the next inning and the Mounties added a solo run in the bottom half of the inning for the 14-2 final score.
Mt. SAC will travel to No. 4 ranked Cypress (9-0), on Thursday (Feb. 27), for a non-conference game.
