(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Softball Team began its quest for a second consecutive CCCAA State Championship and sixth overall, with a convincing 10-1, five-inning victory over visiting Cerritos College Friday (5/3) in the opening game of Round 1 of the Southern California Regionals.

The best of three series continues Saturday at 11:00 a.m. (5/4) as Mt. SAC (37-4) can advance to next weekends' So Cal Super Regionals (Round Two) with another win over Cerritos (21-20).

Leading the way for Mt. SAC was Ally Longtree (3 for 3, 3 Rs, SB) with a game-high three hits, along with home runs by right fielder Jessika Trujillo (2 for 3, 2 Rs, 4 RBIs) and third baseman Ciara Granado (2 for 3, R, 3 RBIs). First baseman Vicky Gutierrez (2 for 3, R, RBI) and designated player Rayven Spencer (2 for 2, R, RBI) added two hits each.

After taking a 2-0 lead on Trujillo's fifth home run of the year in the first inning, the Mounties exploded for seven runs in the third for the 9-0 lead.

Six of those runs came across before an out was recorded. The big blow of the inning was a three-run home run by Granado. This was Granado ninth of the season.

Meanwhile, in the circle Briana Wheeler (22-1) was sailing along with a two-hitter through four innings, while striking out seven.

A tenth run came across in the bottom of the fourth for the Mounties after a sacrifice fly by catcher Adriana Ramirez, scoring Longtree.

The 10 runs were the 18th time that Mt. SAC has scored in double figures this season.
