Mt. SAC Softball Records Third Consecutive Shutout; Blanks Cerritos 6-0

(Walnut, CA) In addition to the longest winning streak (17) in the state this season, the Mt. SAC Softball Team has started a shutout string of three in a row with a 6-0 victory over Cerritos College Tuesday afternoon.

In addition to the winning streak, the Mounties have not allowed a run in 21 consecutive innings.

The Mounties (18-1, 4-0), ranked fourth in the state, were led by outfielder Alissa Perez (3-3, R, RBI, Dbl.) and pitcher Jessica Olvera (5-1) in the South Coast Conference crossover game.

Olvera retired the first six Falcon batters in the game before allowing a third-inning single.

Olvera would allow two hits in the third inning but had a putout at third for the first out. The second, coming on a throw from right fielder Perez to third baseman Ciara Granado (1-2, R, 2 RBIs). Olvera ended the threat in the inning with a strikeout.

Cerritos had runners in scoring position in four of the seven innings, but Olvera and the Mounties defense kept the scoreless streak alive.

Granado and Perez singled and doubled in the first inning, scoring shortstop Casissa Felix (2-4, 2 R, 2 Dbl.) and Granado respectively for the 2-0 lead.

Mt. SAC first baseman Michelle Banales (1-3, R, HR, 2 RBIs) highlighted the fourth inning with a two-run home run, scoring center fielder Caitlyn Felina (1-3, R) to lead 6-0.

The round tripper was the third of the season for Banales and the Mounties upped their team batting average to .339 on the season.

Mt. SAC travels to El Camino College for a South Coast Conference North game on Thursday.
