A Perfect February (11-0) for Mt. SAC Softball

(Santa Ana, CA) The Mt. SAC Softball Team, with a perfect 11-0 record in the month of February, began March with two wins, including an 8-2 nonconference win over Santa Ana College on Saturday afternoon.

With their hot early-season start the Mounties have earned a No. 4-ranking in state by the CCCFCA.

The first three batters in the lineup – shortstop Carissa Felix (3-3, 2 R, 3 RBIs, Dbl., SB), left fielder Caitlyn Felina (3-3, R, Sac.) and first baseman Ciara Granado (1-2, R, RBI, Sac fly) – combined for seven of the 12 Mounties hits.

In the circle, pitcher Jessica Olvera (4-1) went the distance and won her fourth game of the season. She struck out six batters and scattered five hits through seven innings.

The Mounties took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a scoring fly ball by center fielder Jayda Reyes (1-2, R, RBI, Dbl.), scoring second baseman Amanda "Ichiguchi" Esquivel (1-4, R). That was followed by an RBI double by Felix, who scored the third run after an error by the Santa Ana catcher. Felina reached first on a bunt single that started the scoring play.

With Mt. SAC leading 4-2 in the seventh inning, four more runs came across which were highlighted by a two-run single up the middle by Felix.

The Mounties continue South Coast Conference North action on Tuesday against Chaffey College and a rain makeup game on Wednesday with Rio Hondo.
