Softball Holds off Pasadena City College 6-5

(Pasadena, CA) After building up a four-run lead, the Mt. SAC Softball Team held off a seventh-inning Pasadena City College rally for a 6-5 South Coast Conference North win Thursday afternoon.

Mt. SAC's Briana Wheeler pitched her fourth complete-game in a row and won her seventh game without a loss.

With the Mounties leading 6-2 in the seventh inning, the Lancers rallied for three runs to pull within one.  With a runner on third with two outs, Wheeler picked up her sixth strikeout of the game by getting the batter looking to end the game. The Mounties are now 13-1 overall and 2-0 in conference.

Leading the Mounties with two hits apiece was third baseman Ciara Granado (2-4, 2 R, 4 RBIs, 2 HRs) and second baseman Amanda Esquivel (2-3, Sac).

The big blows of the game for the Mounties were a pair of two-run homers by Granado in the first and fourth innings for a 6-2 lead.

It was the sixth game this season that the Mounties banged out double figures in hits.

The Mounties takes a brief break from conference play with a game at Santa Ana on Friday, March 2. They will return home on Tuesday with a conference game against Chaffey College. Game time is 5:00 pm.
