Mt. SAC Softball Wins 10th Game of Season... 7-1 victory over visiting Long Beach City College

(Walnut, CA) With their fifth double-digit hit game in the last seven, the Mt. SAC Softball Team defeated visiting Long Beach City College, 7-1, Tuesday afternoon in a South Coast Conference crossover game.

With 11 hits and 7 runs, the 5th ranked (CCCAA State Poll) Mounties, improved to 10-1 this season.

In the circle, Briana Wheeler won her sixth game of the season with her fourth complete-game victory.

Wheeler (1.62 ERA), who is tied for eighth in the state in wins, scattered four hits and struck out six batters.

"The momentum coming from our bats and going to the field is awesome with that energy," Wheeler said. "They definitely know the right situation and when to get the bunts down."

Wheeler, allowed a run in the sixth inning with Mt. SAC holding a, 4-1, lead.  With two outs and a runner on second, she caught the Viking Batter looking for the third out.

"Knowing I needed that out was important with their momentum," Wheeler added. "It was definitely an awesome feeling."

Three Mounties lead the hit parade with two-hits each – right fielder Alissa Perez (2 for 4, 2 R, SB), designated player Ciara Granado (2-4, R, RBI) and third baseman Vicky Gutierrez (2-3, R).

Shortstop Carissa Felix (1-3, Dbl.) and second baseman Amanda Esquivel (1-3) each had two RBI's apiece.

With the Mounties leading, 1-0, in the third inning, Esquivel singled to left field, scoring center fielder Candace Haliburton and Granado for the 3-0 lead.

The Mounties added three more runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run double by Felix, scoring left fielder Jada Reyes (1-3, R, SB) and Gutierrez.

The Mounties open South Coast Conference North play this Thursday at East Los Angeles College, with a 5:00 pm game.
