Softball wins fifth straight, defeat ELAC 10-2

(Walnut) – By John M. Sherrard – The Mt. SAC softball team, with its fifth consecutive win, kept its hold on first place in the South Coast Conference with a 10-2 mercy win in five innings over host East Los Angeles College Wednesday afternoon.

With 10 hits in the game, the Mounties had four players with two each, including a second consecutive game with a home run by sophomore first baseman Aimee Rodriguez (John Burroughs HS).

Freshman catcher Taylor Jaurique (Wilson HH, HS), freshman third baseman Andrea Contreras (Chatsworth HS), freshman center fielder Bree Maikai (Oak Hill HS) and Rodriguez (2 for 2, 2 runs scored) all had two RBIs each, including a double and triple by Jaurique (2 for 3, run).

Mt. SAC, ranked sixth in the state and third in Southern California, took a 6-0 lead in the first inning, followed by runs in the next three innings.

Not to be forgotten was another fine pitching performance by Jessica Olvera (John F. Kennedy HS), winning her tenth game of the season.

The freshman allowed four hits and two runs and now has a 1.21 ERA.

Sophomore left fielder Danielle Jeffress (Kaiser HS) and freshman dp Aleyah Wilbon (Summit HS) each had a stolen base.
