Alvarado leads Mt. SAC Men's Cross Country to first state title since 2018

(Fresno, CA) Over the previous four seasons (excluding 2020), the Men's California Community College Athletic Association's Cross Country Championship has gone to San Diego Mesa College (2021, 2019) and Mt. San Antonio College (2018, 2017). At Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday, Nov. 19, it was the Mounties who captured the title, keeping the Olympians from winning it for the third consecutive season. Mt. SAC finished with 59 team points, San Diego Mesa came in second with 62, and Riverside City College placed third with 126.

The Mounties' Jesus Alvarado took the top spot in the field of 176 runners, turning in a time of 19:51.2 on the four-mile course—14.5 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Hartnell College's Esteban Deniz (20:05.7).

Other Mt. SAC runners to place in the top 20 included Elijah Ocegueda (20:27.7, 10th place), Jalen Griego (20:36.1, 14th), Jonathan Pfeiffer (20:37.0, 15th), Austin Ledgerwood (20:46.0, 19th), and Andres Chavez (20:46.9, 20th).
