(Walnut, CA) Both the men's and women's cross country team celebrated team and sweepstakes titles at the 72nd Annual Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational. The host Mounties dominated the 16 team field capturing the Sweepstakes Championships (combined men's and women's team time) with a time of 3:28:43 (men 28 points, women 30 points).
The women produced a team time (top 5 runner times combined) of 1:40:46, which was more than minute faster per runner then runner up Chaffey College who ran a team time of 1:45:51 (54 points). Oxnard was third with a score of 70 and a team time of 1:49:26.
Similarly, the men dominated the field scoring 28 points, with a team time of 1:47:57 which was a minute ten seconds faster per runner that runner-up El Camino College who scored 81 points and had a team time of 1:53:46. Pima College of Arizona finished in third with a score of 123 (1:58:47 team time).
Individually the Mountie women finished all five of their scoring runners in the top 16. Leading the way for the Mt. SAC was Sadie Encinas, who took the women's individual title with a time of 19:03 (3-mile course). The Mounties placed their top 5 runners within the top 17 finishers and their top 7 within 21 finishers.
On the Men's side, Daniel Abdala captured the individual title with a time of 21:05 (4-mile course). The men dominated the field placing their top 5 individuals within the top 12 finishers and their top 7 within the top 16 finishers.
Next up for the Mounties will be the South Coast Conference Championships which will be held on November 1st at Irvine Regional Park in Orange (CA).
