Mt. SAC Men's Cross Country Captures Santa Barbara Cross Country Invitational, Women Second.

(Santa Barbara, CA) The Mounties Cross Country Program had an outstanding weekend at the “Beach.”  Mt. SAC took first in the men’s (31 points) and second place in the women’s invitational races at the Santa Barbara Cross Country Invitational (Leadbetter Beach, Santa Barbara), where the men’s team captured their first invitational title of the season (31 points), while the women took second.

Leading the men was freshman Tomas Navarro who finished in second with a time of 22:25.  Right on his heals was sophomore Terry Fenske who finished in third with a time of 22:25.  The men outdistanced themselves from second place team Glendale College who scored 75 points and third place team Cuesta who scored 101 points.  On the women’s side, freshman Dominique Delgado led the Mounties with a time of 22:02 and an eighth place finish. 

Down the coast in Long Beach, former Mountie, Lenore Moreno (West Covina H.S., University of La Verne) captured the women’s division of the JetBlue Long Beach Marathon in a time of 2:40:42.  Moreno was a three time California Community College Athletic Association Track and Field State Champion twice in the 10,000 meters (2009 & 2010) and once in the 5,000 meters (2010).  This year, she has been tearing up the longer distances, winning the San Diego Marathon (2:41:39) and the Disney Tinkerbell Half Marathon (1:15:55).  Next year, Moreno will set her sights on the 2016 US Olympic Marathon Trials which will be held here in Los Angeles on February 13, 2016.
