Mounties Water Polo wins 1 of 2 matches at Southwestern Tourney

(Chula Vista, CA) The Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo team took its last road trip of the regular season to Chula Vista and played a pair of games at Southwestern College in the Dia De Los Muertos Tournament Friday (October 29).

The Mounties (9-15) split two games, defeating San Diego Miramar, 19-10, and lost to Grossmont, 13-8.

Next up for the Mounties is the South Coast Conference Tournament. Mt. SAC will host the playoffs, Thursday and Saturday (Nov. 4 and 6) at the Marie T. Mills Mt. SAC Aquatics Center.

Following the SCC Tourney is the CCCAA So Cal Regionals, hosted by Southwestern College, Nov. 11-13.

Mt. SAC 19, SD Miramar 10

Leading the way for the Mounties was freshman utility player Adam Dow with five goals, followed by four players with three goals each – Aidan Murphy, Kyle Kurtz, Nicholas Brock (3 Steals), and Diego Lopez (2 Steals) Single goals were scored by Ivan Morales and Trevor Ingersoll.

Goalie Noah Stark had eight saves in the game.

Leading, 4-1, after the first period, the Mounties opened up the game with seven in the second for the 11-4 halftime lead. Brock and Dow each scored a pair of goals in the second period for the Mounties.

The onslaught continued in the third period with six more goals to stretch the lead to a 17-5 lead.

Grossmont 13, Mt. SAC 8

Dow again led the Mounties, scoring three goals, along with Murphy (3 Steals) and Morales (1 Stl.) with two each and a single goal by Kurtz.

Stark had nine saves in the game for the Mounties.

Grossmont (19-11) opened up a 6-2 lead after the first half of action. Dow and Kurtz scored for the Mounties.

With the four-goal lead, Grossmont played even with Mt. SAC, outscoring the Mounties by one in the second half, 7-6.
