Mounties split four games in 47th Annual Mt. SAC Tournament

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo team just concluded its 47th Annual Tournament and split four games, Friday and Saturday, September 17, 18 at the Marie T. Mills Aquatics Center.

The Mounties won their first two games of the 2021 season with victories over Santa Monica (18-5) and Fullerton (18-3) on Friday. On Saturday, the Mounties fell to Orange Coast (12-7) and Cuesta (14-8).

Twelve teams competed in the two-day tourney.

Leading the scoring for the Mounties in the four games were freshmen Aidan Murphy and Luke Noblett with nine goals each. They were followed by Kyle Kurtz with seven and Adam Dow with six goals. Nicholas Brock had five goals.


Mt. SAC 18, Santa Monica 5

The Mounties got off to a quick start with four goals in the first period and five in the second for a 9-1 halftime lead. Noblett, who added to his team-leading 31 goals this season, led the Mounties with three goals.

The Mounties poured it on in the third period with seven goals and built up a 16-5 advantage.

In the third period, sophomore driver Tate Cauley scored his first goal of the season.

Goalkeeper Kyle Leimbach had seven saves in the game.


Mt. SAC 18, Fullerton 3

Scoring the first 12 goals of the game, with six in the first and second periods, the Mounties cruised to their second consecutive win of the season.

Noblett and Murphy (23rd goal of the season) led the Mounties with five and four goals, respectively.

Scoring their first college goals for Mt. SAC were Aaron Hernandez and Trey Mickelson.

Leimback made four saves for the Mounties for his second win.


OCC 12, Mt. SAC 7

The Pirates scored one goal early in the period and a second goal with just 20 seconds left, to take a 2-0 lead.

Trailing 4-0 in the second, Morales put the Mounties on the board with a goal at 5:36, to trail, 4-1. Ingersol was credited with the assist.

OCC built up a 7-3 halftime lead. Dow and Brock scored goals for Mt. SAC in the period.

The Mounties kept up the pressure in the third period, outscoring OCC, 4-2, to trail 9-7 heading into the final period. Trevor Ingersol, Dow, Murphy, and Diego Lopez scored for the Mounties.

Mt. SAC was shutout in the fourth period, as the Pirates put the game away with three goals.

Freshman Noah Stark made seven saves in the game for the Mounties in goal.


Cuesta 14, Mt. SAC 8

The Mounties played a tight first period, trailing Cuesta, 2-1. Ingersol scored for the Mounties.

Mt. SAC trailed Cuesta, 5-4, at the half and evened up the game, 7-7 in the third on goals by Morales, Dow and Brock.

The Cougars (11-2) scored the first seven goals of the fourth period to take a commanding, 14-7 lead before Murphy could score the eighth and final goal for the Mounties.

Kurtz and Ingersol led the Mounties with two goals each in the game.

Stark had 10 saves in goal for Mt. SAC.
