Mt. SAC Men’s Water Polo Edges Rio Hondo, 10-8

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo Team held off a late-charging Rio Hondo College to take a 10-8 win on Wednesday, October 3rd, at the Marie T. Mills Aquatic Center.

Neither team had more than a two-goal advantage in the first half.  In the third period, Noah Brokaw provided two goals and Jake Marsden provided one, to give the Mounties a four-goal (9-5) lead heading into the last period.

In the final period, Rio Hondo scored two goals in the first two minutes and another with 3:12 left, to close within a goal (9-8).

With the Mounties up a man, center Brokaw (3 G, asst.) scored on a pass from attacker Edgar Cueva (3A), giving Mt. SAC a two-goal lead (10-8) with 1:01 remaining.

Mounties utility player Jarrett Barker (3 stl.), who scored 21 goals on their Eastern trip last weekend, led with four goals in the game. Jonathan Heredia (3 stl.) added two goals and on the defensive side with Cueva leading witha a game-high seven steals.  Aidan O'Neill and Christian Lopez added four and three steals, respectively for the Mounties.

With the win Mt. SAC improves to 14-3 overall and 2-1 in the South Coast Conference.

The Mounties take a break from conference action and will host NCAA Division I Fordham University on Thursday, October 4th at 6:30 pm.
