Mounties Men's Track and Field Takes Second at Season-Opening RCC Early Bird Meet

(Riverside, CA) With 207.5 points, the Mt. SAC Men's Track and Field Team opened its 2020 season by placing second behind Riverside City College (317.5 points) at the Riverside City College Early Bird meet on Friday, Feb. 7. San Diego Mesa placed third in the three-team meet with 141 points.

Top Mountie performances included the following:

Daniel Abdala (4:26.23) and Zackary Alexander (4:26.56) placed second and third, respectively, in the one-mile run. In the two-mile run, Alexander (9:39.05) placed second and Abdala (9:41.34) finished third.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Matthew Uballe took first place with a time of 8.31 seconds and Miguel Alcaraz placed third in 8.59 seconds. Aaron Mahlow finished fourth, turning in a time of 8.67 seconds.

Giovany Cuevas (57.75 seconds) and Justin Scalf (58.12) captured second and third places in the 400-meter hurdles.

The 4x400 relay team of Mahlow, Scalf, Robert Taft, and Uballe finished first in the event with a time of 3:23.04.

Bryce Butler, Abdala, Frederick Inada, and John Martinez-Vasquez comprised the distance medley relay team that took second place with a time of 10:34.72.

In the high jump, Shallamar Poole took first place with a jump of 1.90 meters, while Demond Moore and Jaxson McIsaac tied for third, clearing 1.75 meters.

Nathaniel Carranza placed first in the pole vault at 4.50 meters.

Nathan Wong took first place in the triple jump with a distance of 13.03 meters.

Joshua Tan's throw of 44.12 meters earned him a second-place finish in the hammer throw.

The Mounties will participate in the Cerritos Opener at Cerritos College on Saturday, Feb. 22.
