Stokes and Spruill Lead Mt. SAC Track & Field at Stanford Invite

(Palo Alto, CA) A pair of freshmen led the Mt. SAC Men's Track & Field Team at the Stanford Invitational on Friday and Saturday, March 30-31.

Sprint specialists Daniel Stokes and Deondre Spruill bested numerous major universities in the 100M, 200M and both relays.

Other top finishers for the Mounties were Leonardo Brown, 3rd place - 110 Hurdles (14.26); Brandon McLaurin, 3rd – Triple Jump (14.76M) and 5th in the Long Jump (6.77M); Hector Sanchez, 5th – Javelin Throw (57.42M) and Shonnardo Bodie, 6th – Discus (48.86M).

Both McLaurin and Sanchez achieved their marks on the last attempts, Bodie had his best throw as a collegian and Brown was the only community college runner among 18 NCAA Division I and II colleges and universities.

Stokes and Spruill finished fourth (10:55) and fifth (10:57) respectively in the 100M and second (21:40) and fifth (21:63) respectively in the 200M running events. The Mounties placed three in the top ten of the 100M Dash.

Pole Vaulters Kyle Beck and Asa Martin finished in the top ten, each jumping 4.65M.

In the two relays, the Mounties placed second in the 4 X 100M (Stokes, Gaston Bouchereau, Bailey Kaopuiki, Spruill), 41.12 and sixth in the 4 x 400M (Stokes, Eric Vivanco, Bouchereau, Max Petrosian), 3:15.92.

•          400M – 18th – Petrosian 49.73 (Finished ahead of 17 Univ. runners)

•          400M Hurdles – 16th – Dylan Atencio, 54.19

•          High Jump – 13th – Timothy Sloan, 1.91M

•          Long Jump – 6th – Philip Brown, 6.56M; 7th – Reynaldo Beech, 6.49M; 11th - David Ripley, 6.11M

•          Discus – 15th – David Potts, 37.09M

•          Hammer Throw – 18th – Julian Ortega, 49.37; 26th – Aaron Guerra, 42.11

•          Javelin Throw – 12th – Ruben Retana, 51.08
