He began his association with California Community College Athletics Association (CCCAA), in 1970, when he ran for Bakersfield College (BC) under fellow Hall of Famer and former , Bob Covey.  Goff was a member of the 1971 and 1972 State Championship winning Track and Field Teams.

He began his full-time teaching and coaching career at El Rancho High School (Pico Rivera, CA) where he helped thousands of student-athletes of this lower income area, develop a love for cross country and track and field.  His programs averaged over 300 student/athletes annually.  Goff was named El Rancho High School Teacher of the Year twice and was awarded the "Outstanding Contribution to Education Award" by the El Rancho Unified School District.

In 1990, Goff moved on to Ayala High School, a new school in Chino Hills, California.  In his first year, with only freshman and sophomores, he captured the Sierra League Boy's Varsity Track and Field Championship.  In his six seasons there, Goff developed Ayala High School into a perennial cross country and track & field powerhouse winning 15 varsity league championships and a Boy's Varsity CIF Cross Country Championship in 1992.

In 1996, Mt. SAC became the new home for Goff, where he continued his winning tradition, helping the Mounties capture 6 consecutive men's and 3 consecutive women's track and field state championships.  During his tenure as Men's Cross Country  and Women's Track and Field Head Coach, his teams captured a total of 4 CCCAA State Championships, 19 South Coast Conference (SCC) Titles and placed top 3 in the state championships and amazing 14 times.  Goff has been named SCC Coach of the Year 19 times, as well as being named the SCC "All-Sports" Coach of the Year in 2011 and 5CTCA State Track and Field Coach of the Year in 2000.

Along with his teaching/coaching duties, Goff has also served as the Kinesiology Department Chairman for the past 10 years, as well as being a integral part of the Mt. SAC Special Events.  After 37 years of teaching, Goff is set to retire after this cross country season.
