Mt. SAC Men’s Swimming sweeps Rio Hondo, El Camino in SCC double dual meet

(Whittier, CA) It was nearly a perfect day in scoring for the Mt. SAC Men's Swimming and Diving team at the first double dual meet of the 2023 season.

The dual, held at Rio Hondo College versus the Roadrunners and El Camino, was a complete sweep for the Mounties, Friday (March 3) in the South Coast Conference.

Mt. SAC defeated El Camino, 230-48, and Rio Hondo, 238-12. El Camino defeated Rio Hondo, 194-23.

"There were great swims by the team," Mt. SAC coach Marc Ruh said.

As a team, the Mounties had 1-2-3 finishes against El Camino in 10 of the 15 events and all 15 events against Rio Hondo.

Mt. SAC had first-place finishes in all events against both teams.

Some notable swims were Eric Yeh with nearly a school record in the 100 Butterfly. The record was established in 2014 by Edward Sanchez with a time of 50.14.

Yeh was within .08, as he swam a 50.22 for the Mounties.

"The team stepped up and went 1,2,3 in many events and swam very well as a team," Ruh added. "The divers (1 – Maximus Sandoval, 2- Sebastian Burgos, and 3 – Ellis Stagg) did a great job as well and we started the meet with 1-2-3 finishes by both the men and women in diving."

Top first-place swims for the men were: Isaiah Huerta (50, 100 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke), Yeh (100, 200 Fly, 200 Back), Markus Stegbuchner (100, 200 Breaststroke), and Matthew Neoh (200, 500 Free).

The Mounties travel North to San Luis Obispo to compete in the Cuesta College Invitational on Friday and Saturday (March 10, 11).
