Mt. SAC Men’s Swim team opens season with Northern trip to Diablo Valley College; New pool complex completed for 2023 season

(Pleasant Hill, CA) With a new pool complex all set and ready to go, the 2023 Mt. SAC Men's Swimming and Diving team will debut the new facility at the annual Mt. SAC Invitational, Friday and Saturday (February 24, 25).

The Mounties opened their season last Friday (January 27), as they traveled up North for their annual opening trip to Diablo Valley College.

The non-scoring meet also featured Los Positas College.

"We were just happy to get the meet with two quality programs so early in the season," Mt. SAC Men's Swimming and Diving coach Marc Ruh said. "Both teams are typically considered to be some of the top teams in the north.

"The kids all swam great, and it was a great team-building two days for us. I think we are both poised for a great season."

The men swept every event from Diablo Valley and lost only three of the 12 events to Las Positas. In addition, the Mounties swept all three relays from both teams – 200 Freestyle, 200 Medley, and the 400 Free.

Leading the way for the Mounties were four swimmers with two wins each against Diablo Valley – Sophomore Isaiah Huerta (200 Free, 100 Free), Eric Yeh (100 Butterfly, 50 Free), sophomore Matthew Neoh (100 Backstroke, 100 Individual Medley) and freshman Markus Stegbuchner (100 Breaststroke, 200 IM). Freshman Samuel Slezak won the 500m Freestyle.

"We are very pleased with the outcome of the meets," Ruh added. "Those were some promising early swims. The kids competed hard and battled through some tough competition.

"It is always great to get the first meet out of the way in the early season against strong teams and get the teams prepped for a tough season ahead."

The Mounties will next travel to El Camino College for the El Camino Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 4).
