Mt. SAC Men’s Swimming edged out by LBCC for SCC Championships

(Monterey Park, CA) In the closest of margins, Mt. SAC Men's Swim team was edged out in the final event of the day in the South Coast Conference Championships by Long Beach City College, held at East Los Angeles College on April 21-23.

The win by Long Beach City College, which they won by two points, 782-780, broke a six-year winning streak by the Mounties.

El Camino (485), Cerritos and Rio Hondo T4 (393) finish out the top five placers.

LBCC last won the SCC Championships in 2012.

In the final event – the 400 Freestyle Relay – Mt. SAC had the lead for the first 300 yards but lost the lead on the final leg.

LBCC finished with a time of 3:11.91 and the Mounties ended up with a 3:13.65.

Mt. SAC won nine of the 18 swimming events, with LBCC winning six.

Coming into the SCC Swim Championships, LBCC had won both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter Diving events.

Leading the way for the Mounties, as he has most of the season, was Matthew Neoh. The freshman won both the 100 and 200 backstroke events and was on the four first-place relay wins by the Mounties.

Mt. SAC won the 200 and 800 Free Relays and both the 200 and 400 Medley Relays.

Also winning individual titles were Justin Gomez (50 Free), Spencer Sorosky (100 Breaststroke), and Isaiah Huerta (1,650 Free).

The final event of the season is the CCCAA State Championships, beginning Thursday, May 5 through Saturday, May 7 at ELAC.
