Mt. SAC Men's Swimming and Diving teams Place First in SCC

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC men's and women's swimming and diving teams each finished first at the South Coast Conference Championships held at Mt. SAC on Thursday through Saturday.

With a team total of 964 points (winning 15 of the 17 events), the men's team finished well ahead of El Camino (509 points) and Pasadena (442 points) to capture the conference title. 

Several Mounties earned individual honors at the three-day event, including Jason Harary and Ethan Trieu as Co-SCC Men's Swimmers of the Year.

Harary won three events during the meet, the 200-yard Individual Medley, the 400-yard Individual Medley, and the 200-yard Backstroke (1:50.44). His times in the 200- (1:51.09) and 400-yard (4:59.83) Individual Medleys set new all-time SCC records.

Trieu also placed first in three events, the 100-yard Fly (50.14), 100-yard Backstroke (50.39), and 100-yard Freestyle (45.83).

Mt. SAC's men's coaches Marc Ruh and Lani Ruh were named SCC Men's Swimming Coaches of the Year, while women's coaches Chris Jackson and Jodi Lepp  earned SCC Women's Swimming Coaches of the Year.

The team of Vinny Edwards, Zachary Anaya, Ryan Lin, and Edgar Cueva captured first place in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:28.14. Trieu, Lin, Harary, and Cueva combined for a time of 3:28.51 to finish first in the 400-yard Medley Relay.

In the 200-yard Medley Relay, the team of Trieu, Harary, Jonathan Olvera, and Cueva turned in a time of 1:35.80, good enough for first place. Harary, Cueva, Edwards, and Trieu took first in the 800-yard Freestyle Relay with a combined time of 6:59.70. The team of Anaya, Harary, Edwards, and Trieu was best in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, finishing with a time of 3:09.35.

Lin turned in first-place finishes in the 100- (59.69) and 200-yard (2:09.35) Breaststrokes. Olvera earned first in the 200-yard Fly with a time of 1:52.55 and in the 1,650-yard Freestyle at 16:29.56.

In the 200-yard Freestyle, Cueva (1:44.94), Edwards (1:45.03), and Anaya (1:47.14) finished in the top three spots.

The Mounties will next compete in the three-day California Community College Athletic Association Championships at De Anza College beginning Thursday, May 2.
