Mt. SAC Swim & Dive Team Opens 2019 Season at Diablo Valley College

(Pleasant Hilll, CA) The Mounties opened the 2019 season on Friday (02/01), travelling North to take on Diablo Valley College (DVC) in a dual meet. The Mt. SAC Men's Swimming & Diving Team lost the dual, 151,128, but captured seven individual events and on relay.  Ethan Trieu, Ryan Lin and Jonathan Olvera each captured two individual events.

Jason Harary was the other individual event winner and the team took a win in the 400 Medley Relay.

"I thought we had a great meet," Mt. SAC Swimming & Diving Head Coach Marc Ruh replied. "It's always great to kick off the season with a great competition.

"I think we accomplished everything we had hoped to on this trip."

This is the sixth consecutive year that the Mounties have traveled North for their first competition of the season.

Twenty-five swimmers made the trip, competing in 15 events, which included three relays.

The Mounties started the meet with the 400 MR win, with Trieu, Olivera, Lin and Harary finishing with a time of 1:38.66.

In the 1,000 and 500 Freestyle, Victor Urias (10:56.25) finished third behind the same two DVC swimmers in both events.

The initial individual win came in the 100 Backstroke, with Trieu (55.27) and William Ku (59.68) finishing one-two.

Trieu also won the 100 Free (48.15) and finished second in the 50 Free.

Harary also accounted for two second place finishes (200 Free, 200 IM) and won the 200 Back with a time of 1:56.51. Olivera finished second in the Backstroke with a time of 2:02.27.

Lin won both the 100 Breast (1:02.48) and 200 Breast (2:17.32) and was third in the 200 IM. Jason Ku finished second in the 200 Breast (2:18.39).

Olivera, who specializes in the butterfly, took both the 100 Fly (53.90) and the 200 Fly (1:56.62).

The Vikings won the 200 Free Relay and finished the day with a win in the 400 Free Relay.

The Swim team will next compete at the annual South Coast Conference Pentathlon, which will be held at at Chaffey College on Friday (1/15), while the dive team will compete in its first event of the season at El Camino College in the SCC Diving Preview Saturday (2/16).
