(Walnut, CA) Host and No. 5 seed Mt. San Antonio College (15-6-1) turned what looked like defeat into an eventual victory with a 3-2 double-overtime win against No. 12 Santa Ana College (10-7-6) in the second round of the California Community College Athletic Association Southern Region playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Down 2-0 late in the game, Alex Mendez put the Mounties on the board with an unassisted goal in the 71st minute to close the gap to 2-1. Andrew Vazquez tied the score with a goal in the 81st minute on an assist by Mendez.

Neither team scored in the first overtime period, but in the second, Edward Castro scored the decisive goal for Mt. SAC in the 110th minute on another assist by Mendez to seal the victory, 3-2.

Jacob Cardenas went the distance in goal for the Mounties, playing all 110 minutes.

Mt. SAC will next face a familiar opponent in the next round. No. 4 seed El Camino College (17-2-2) will host the Mounties on Tuesday, Nov. 22, for the right to advance. The Warriors finished in second place in the South Coast Conference South Division standings and defeated Mt. SAC, 1-0, in an SCC crossover matchup on Oct. 25.
