(Walnut, CA) Mt. SAC freshman midfielder Jacob Cervantes scored his first college goal and it was an important one as the Mounties Soccer team shutout visiting Mira Costa, 1-0, in a non-conference game on Tuesday (September 13).

With the win, the Mounties improved to 4-2 overall.

Cervantes, with the assist from Alex Mendez, scored a last-minute goal (90th minute) to escape with the win.

"The goal came off of a great corner kick from Alex (Mendez)," Mt. SAC Men's Soccer coach Juan Sanchez said. "He hit a good cross on the corner kick to connect with Jake (Cervantes) with about a minute left in stoppage time.

"The backline recorded a clean sheet. It was a good all-around defensive game from the entire team."

Mt. SAC sophomore goalie Jacob Cardenas won his third game of the season, which was also his second shutout.

Mt. SAC will continue non-conference action with a game at San Bernardino Valley College on Tuesday (September 20).
