No. 1 Men's Soccer falls to No. 5 Long Beach on penalty kicks in SCC Tournament semis

(Walnut, CA) In the semifinal round of the South Coast Conference Tournament, No. 1 seed Mt. SAC (13-2-2, 7-1-2) squandered a 2-0 halftime lead as No. 5 Long Beach (8-3-8, 5-2-4) scored a pair of goals to tie the game late in the second half. The Vikings then outscored the Mounties, 5-4, on penalty kicks to earn a spot in the title game against No. 2 Cerritos (14-4-1, 8-2).

Alex Mendez scored both Mt. SAC goals, one at the 18:00 mark (unassisted) and another at the 20:00 mark (Anthony Vargas assist). Long Beach's scores game in the second half at the 67:00 and 75:00 marks.

Jacob Cardenas played all 90 minutes in goal for the Mounties.

Next up for Mt. SAC is a matchup against No. 3 seed El Camino (16-3-1, 7-3-1) in the third-place game of the tournament on Friday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m. at El Camino College. The Mounties defeated the Warriors, 3-0, on Oct. 12. Mt. SAC sits at No. 3 in the current state rankings, while El Camino is ranked No. 4.
