Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Extends Undefeated Streak to Eight Games

Mt. SAC after win against Oxnard

(Walnut, CA) The CCCAA No. 1-ranked Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team extended its undefeated streak to start the season to eight games with a 3-0 win over No. 5 Oxnard Tuesday night (Sept. 24).

The Mounties, who are tied atop the state rankings with Cerritos (8-0-1) and are No. 1 in the nation in the United Soccer Coaches Association Division III NJCAA Poll for the third straight week, have started the season with their longest winning streak in six years.

Twice they have started the season ('13 and '14) with eight-game unbeaten streaks with three ties.

After a scoreless first half, the Mounties began their onslaught of three second-half goals, with a score at the 54-minute mark. Midfielder Gerardo Cazares, with his fifth goal of the season, scored on an assist from Alan Piceno, who crossed the ball into the box for the 1-0 lead.

Mt. SAC put the game away with two goals in a five-minute span starting in the 65th minute. Left half back Jesus Garcia scored an unassisted goal for the 2-0 lead. Garcia won a 50/50 tackle on top of the 18, got a rebound shot and scored.

That was followed by the third goal of the game in the 70th minute, also by Garcia.

"It was assisted by midfielder Paul Iniguez on a great through ball into Jesus (Garcia)," Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Coach Juan Sanchez said. "Jesus made a great run into the box and slotted the ball to the far post."

Mt. SAC goal keeper Alain Hernandez picked up his fifth win of the season, stopping all three shots taken by the Condors.

Mt. SAC will aim to keep its undefeated streak going as they travel to play No. 11 San Bernardino Valley College (5-1-1) Monday (Sept. 30). Game time is 6:00 pm.
