(Walnut, CA) Something will be missing this year at the CCCAA State Soccer Championships – the Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team.

For the first time in 12 years, the Mounties will not be in the final four, as they were shutout by Golden West College, 2-0 in the So Cal Regional finals Saturday night (11/24) at the Mt. SAC Soccer Complex.

No. 6 Seed Golden West will advance to the state final four at Ventura College this Friday (11-30).

With the loss, the five-time state champion Mounties ends their season at 18-5-3.

The string of 11 consecutive state final four appearances began in 2007, which included championships in 2009-'12 and 2016.

Both teams played even for the first 30 minutes with numerous yellow cards handed out.

The Mounties had the first scoring opportunity in the 18th minute as forward Giovanny Garcia took a direct shot at the Golden West keeper, but came up short.

The Rustlers scored in each half with the first coming in the 32nd minute that was taken way outside of the 18-yard box and deflected off of a player into the left side of the net.

The second came with a man advantage as Mt. SAC's Alfonso Lopez received a red card in the 51st minute and the Mounties played the rest of the game with 10 field players. That was followed by the second goal six minutes later in the 57th minute after a scramble and the loose ball was knocked in from just outside the box for the 2-0 lead.

The Mounties controlled a good part of the second half with their speed and passing, but couldn't get a score.

Highlighting the season for the Mounties was the scoring frenzy by Garcia and Alfonso Lopez.

They finished fourth and seventh in the state with 20 and 18 goals, respectively.
