(Walnut, CA) Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooal, Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooal, Gooooooooooooooooooooal, Gooooooooooooooooooooal !!!!

Four consecutive goals by Mt. SAC Men's Soccer defender Alfonso Lopez was the highlight Friday, in a 5-0 nonconference victory over visiting Cuyamaca College.

Lopez's scoring spree makes him the only player in the state, this season, with four goals in a game.

"I can't remember ever having a four-goal scorer here at Mt. SAC in my 18 years coaching," Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Head Coach Juan Sanchez said.

Sanchez has seen his share of great players along his long coaching career which includes five CCCAA state championships.

"He had a good game and was in the right place at the right time," Sanchez added "I'm excited for the kid and he deserves it."

Getting in on the action for the Mounties (5-2-1) was forward Giovanny Garcia with a goal and two assists.

Garcia started the scoring at the 18-minute mark on an assist from forward Gustavo Lopez for the 1-0 lead.

Midfielder Marty Raygoza started the play as he put the ball through to forward Gustavo Lopez, who passed to Garcia, who cut in and scored.

Alfonso Lopez took over from there, scoring a pure hat trick (3 consecutive goals) in the next 11 minutes.

Alfonso Lopez actually moved up to the forward position after Gustavo Lopez received a yellow card and was pulled out.

Alfonso gave the Mounties a 2-0 lead in the 25th minute on an assist by Garcia, who crossed the ball at the 6-yard mark.

"They (Cuyamaca) seemed to be rattled after that second goal," Sanchez added.

That goal was followed five minutes later (30th minute) by his second goal (Marty Raygoza) and a 3-0 lead.

Six minutes later, (36th minute) Lopez finished off the first-half scoring and his trifecta with a goal for the 4-0 lead. Garcia picked up his second assist as he crossed the ball to Lopez at an angle going toward the goal.

A second-half exclamation point was added by Lopez to complete the four-goal feat in the 57th minute. The goal was unassisted.

Lopez was taken out with 20 minutes left to give other players some playing time. Just prior to coming out he just missed a chance at a fifth goal.

Four out of the five Mt. SAC goals in the game were created by pressure at midfield.

Diego Orellana and John Samano split time in goal for the Mounties, as each keeper stopped the only shot they faced.

"It was nice to get some big offense," said Sanchez of the five-goal explosion. "It was all set up because of our defensive pressure.

"The momentum is perfect timing for us."

Mt. SAC will host Oxnard (5-2-1) on Tuesday, September 25th, at 6:00 pm.
