Mt. SAC Men’s Soccer Wins Washington, D.C. Tournament

Men's Soccer win tournament in Washington DC

(Washington, DC) By identical, 2-1, scores, the Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team downed Genessee Community College and Montgomery County Community College in the annual Washington, DC/Azteca Soccer Tournament held on September 8th and 9th.

The two victories gave the Mounties the tournament championship and improved their overall record to 4-1.

In the first game against Genessee, the Mounties trailed 1-0 in the 21st minute, but two second-half goals put the team ahead for the big win against the 2017 NJCAA National Champions.

The tying goal came in the 70th minute by forward Ivan Escobar on an assist from Alfonso Lopez.  Midfielder Diego Carrillo got the go-ahead, unassisted goal for the 2-1 lead with 5 minutes left in regulation play (85th minute).

Splitting time in goal was Alain Hernandez (2 SV) and John Samano (3 SV) who received the win.

In the second game against Montgomery College ,the Mounties again trailed 1-0 early in the second half (52nd minute).

Seven minutes later (59th minute) Lopez tied the game at one apiece (59th minute), for the second consecutive game on an unassisted goal.

Giovanny Garcia, on an assist from Gustavo Lopez, gave the Mounties the lead for good in the 67th minute. The goal was Garcia's team leading fourth of the season

Samano picked up his second win of the tourney, with Hernandez (2 SV) also seeing action in thegoal.

The Mounties will take a short break and will then host Southern Nevada on Saturday, September 15th at 8:00 pm.
