Richland (TX) Defeats Mounties 2-0 in Azteca/Adidas Tournament

(Walnut, CA) With a late first half score and an own goal, the Mounties were shutout 2-0 by visiting Richland, Texas in the opening game of the annual Mt. SAC Azteca/Adidas Soccer Tournament.

Mt. SAC, which will play Lake Tahoe on Sunday at 12:30 pm in game two of the tourney, evened its record at 1-1.

Richland, which is ranked second in the country in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) preseason poll, took a 1-0 lead with just one minute (44th minute) left in the first half.

In a physical game, in which Richland received multiple yellow cards, started out with an own goal by the Mounties thee minutes (48th minute) into the second half.

Richland led 2-0 and it held up the rest of the way, with the Mounties playing hard the entire game with chances to score.

Mt. SAC freshman goalkeeper Alain Hernandez stopped five of seven Richland shots in the game.

The Mounties take to the road with their annual east coast trip to Washington, DC September 6-10 and will play in the fifth annual Tom Bichy Soccer Tournament.

They will play Genessee Community College (Batavia, N.Y.) on Sept. 8, which is the top-ranked team in the NJCAA preseason poll. Mt. SAC will take on Montgomery College on Sept. 9 on the second day of the tournament.
