Men’s Soccer Opens South Coast Conference with 2-1 Win over East L.A.

(Monterey Park, CA) After a scoreless first half, the Mt. SAC Men's Soccer team scored twice in the second half and defeated East L.A. College, 2-1, in a South Coast Conference game Tuesday afternoon.

The Mounties went on to their seventh win of the season against only a loss and a tie.

Mt. SAC sophomore forward Sam Ponting (unassisted) scored his third goal of the season just two minutes into the second half in the 47th minute for the, 1-0 lead.

Eleven minutes later (58th minute) Mt. SAC sophomore Alexis Diaz-Paya pressured the ELAC centerback and passed to sophomore forward Andre Gamboa for the breakaway goal and the, 2-0 lead.

ELAC scored a late goal in the 80th minute to spoil the shutout by Mt. SAC sophomore goal keeper Edwyn Gutierrez.

The Mounties will hit the road for Dallas, Texas to play Richland College on Friday. Richland, a powerhouse in Community College soccer is the reigning 2016 NJCAA national champion. Mt. SAC played Richland twice in the last three years and has a tie and a loss.

After the trip the Mounties resume South Coast Conference action against Rio Hondo on Tuesday October 3.
