Men's Soccer Advances To CCCAA State Championships!

(Irvine, CA) For the 9th year in a row, the Mounties have advanced to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Men’s Soccer State Championships.  The Mounties (#8 seed, 15-5-4) defeated #4 seed, Irvine Valley College (16-3-5), 2 -1, to advance to the state championship play-offs which will be held at De Anza Community College in Cupertino (CA).  The Mounties (#2 South seed) will face #1 North seed, Evergreen Valley College (17-3-3) on Friday, December 4th at 1:30 pm in the semi-finals.  The winner of this match will take on the winner of the South #1 seed, Oxnard College (17-4-3) and North #2 seed, Lake Tahoe Community College (18-4-2) match for the state championship on Sunday, December 6th at 1:30 pm.

Against Irvine Valley, the Mounties jumped out to an early, lead on a Rolando Munoz free kick goal in the 11th minute.  The score held all the way until the 67th minute of the second half, when Toby Waterman of Irvine Valley scored, to tie the score, at one a piece.  The Mounties had a number of close opportunities, but were not able to cement the win until the 87th minute when Daniel Huizar scored the game winning goal from the top of the box, on a pass from Michael Flores. 

The Mountie win snapped the Orange Empire Conference Champion Lazers 16-game unbeaten streak.
