(Riverside, CA) With only the final two Orange Empire Conference tournaments remaining, the Mt. SAC Men's Golf team remains atop the leader board and is aiming for its first title since the return of golf in 2016.

Mt. SAC's golf program had been on hiatus from 2011 to 2016. It had won a CCCAA State Championship in 2005

With the program having a great resurgence in the last couple of years, the Mounties would have been in contention for success in the So Cal's and the state tournament.

However, because of the pandemic, the So Cal's and state championships have been canceled this year.

The Mounties were off to a good start last year (5-1) before the season was canceled, and have been in control this year in the top spot.

At the first of two OEC Neutral matches, the Mounties hold a six-win lead after finishing second for the third time this season at the OEC Neutral Match (Inland Host) at Canyon Crest Country Club Monday (May 17). They have finished in the top spot three times.

Orange Coast College (371) was three strokes better than the Mounties (374), followed by Riverside City College (375), Cypress (380), Saddleback (383), Victor Valley (434 and Mt. San Jacinto (435).

Jordan Medlock of RCC was the low medalist for the event with a 1-under par 70.

Mt. SAC's Ben Sanders, 71 (36-35) finished in a tie for second on the Par-72 course

He shot even Par on the first nine holes, which included three birdies and two Pars. On the back nine, Sanders carded a 1-under Par 35 with two birdies.

Two strokes behind Sanders were Mt. SAC's Amaan Patel (73), followed by teammates Bryan Saw (74), Felix Tsui (76), Brandon Winters (80), and Kotaro Noda (81).

The Mounties will compete in their second of two Neutral Matches next Monday (May 24) at a Coastal Course at Tijeras Creek CC in Rancho Santa Margarita. The event is hosted by Saddleback College.
