Patel shoots a 67 at El Prado GC (OEC Match No. 2)

(Chino, CA) With the lowest round in the last two years in the Orange Empire Conference, Mt. SAC freshman golfer Amaan Patel carded a 5-under-par 67 in Match No. 2, Wednesday (April 21) at El Prado Golf Course in Chino.

"Winning my first collegiate event was great, but there is still a lot more work to be done," Patel said. "The support of the coach and the team will keep me focused for future wins. My best is yet to come."

The event, hosted by Cypress College, is the second of 11 matches this season in the OEC.

Patel's 67 is the best round at Mt. SAC since Josh Song shot an 8-under-par 64 on April Fool's Day in 2019 at the Costa Mesa Country Club.

"Amaan is an amazing golfer and he proved it," Mt. SAC Men's Golf Coach Greg Osbourne said. "He saved our team score and led us to victory."

Patel, who led the field of 36 golfers, carded a 34 on the front nine and a 33 coming back in.

As a team, the Mounties finished atop the leaderboard in the seven-team conference with a score of 370, 11 strokes ahead of Cypress (381) and Riverside City College (381).

Finishing fourth was Saddleback with a 382.

"This is the most talented team yet that I have had since we started the men's program," said Osbourne, who became coach in 2017, when the program was brought back to Mt. SAC.

After two events, the Mounties are in first with an 11-1 record, followed by Saddleback (9-3), Cypress (8-4), and RCC (8-4).

Individually, all five remaining Mounties shot in the '70s.

Their scores were: Kotaro Noda (72), Brandon Winters (74), Benjamin Sanders (78), Bryan Saw (79), and Chu-Wen (Felix) Tsui (79).

Mt. SAC continues OEC play on Monday (April 26) at Victoria Country Club in Riverside. The event is hosted by Riverside City College.
