Mt. SAC Men’s Golf Falls out of First in OEC; Places Fifth in Match #6

(Mission Viejo, CA) The Mt. SAC Men's Golf Team (1-4), with a season-low, fifth-place finish, fell out of the top spot in the Orange Empire Conference with a score of 398 at Match #6 at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club.

Orange Coast College (5-0), with a match-best 374, changes places with the Mounties for first place in the OEC along with Cypress (4-1), which finished second with a 383.

Saddleback (393), which hosted the match on its home course in the beautiful rolling hills of Mission Viejo, finished with a season-best 3-2 score for third, followed by Irvine Valley College (395), 2-3, in fourth. Riverside City College (0-5) finished in sixth with a 399.

Only one golfer, OCC's Bryce Sheridan, carded an even-par 72 for low medalist.

Mt. SAC's lowest placer was Chu-Wen (Felix) Tsui, with a tie for fifth place. Tsui, who has a 74.6 average, shot a 76 (37-39) on the 7,011-yard course.

Tsui, who was paired with Sheridan for the match, carded eight pars on the front nine for a 1-over at the turn, while finishing with five pars and a birdie on the back nine.

Scores were high for the most part among the 36 golfers, with half the field carding an 80 or higher.

Finishing second among the six Mountie golfers was Hanseop Lee with a 78 (36-42). Lee was on course for a par round with a 36 at the turn, but shot a 6-over par for a 42 on the back nine.

The remaining four Mounties all were in the 80's – Blake Copeland, 80 (38-42), Julio Ibarra, 81 (37-44), Josh Song, 83 (39-44) and Cameron Smith, 88 (41-47).

The final event in the OEC is the conference championships, hosted by Mt. SAC at Royal Vista GC in Walnut on Monday (4/29). Scores count as double in the championships.

The top three teams in conference will advance to the CCCAA So Cal Regionals (5/6). OCC, Cypress and Mt. SAC are the top three teams, with only the positions to be decided.
